Registered Nursing: Track II: LVN-to-RN (ADN)

Program Details

California Licensed Vocational Nurses are eligible to apply for a one-year LVN-RN transition program, also known as the Registered Nursing (LVN-to-RN) Step-Up program in pursuit of the Associate Degree in Nursing. First-year nursing coursework credit is granted with evidence of a California LVN license in good standing and evidence of graduating from a program approved by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT). Students complete a transition course offered during summer and two subsequent semesters for eligibility to apply to take the National Council License Exam for Registered Nursing (NCLEX). For those students who have received their license through challenging the NCLEXPN, pediatric and obstetrical content will need to be verified by the ADN director. Please make an appointment with the ADN director to determine how to satisfy this requirement.

  1. Apply the knowledge, skills and attitudes of a new graduate associate degree registered nurse to successfully pass the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) exam.
  2. Consistently utilize therapeutic communication with patients, support persons, and members of the interdisciplinary team, including verbal, nonverbal, and written methods.
  3. Demonstrate competence in the application of electronic based resources to support evidenced-based learning, make informed clinical decisions, and ensure safe clinical practice.
  4. Manage, promote, coordinate, and administer safe nursing care by integrating the nursing process, clinical judgment and skills competency for diverse patients and families across the lifespan.
  5. Using the nursing process, demonstrate clinical reasoning skills to recognize, analyze and prioritize complex and evolving patient needs to develop and implement a plan of care.
